About

Hi, I'm Uma.

I'm a proud Bay Area native and even prouder Indian-American artist.

I grew up playing drums in an all-girl punk band on weeknights and performing in piano recitals during the weekends. My mom and grandmother taught me to sing, and Robin Williams and Kajol taught me to act.

Now, I live and work in New York City, where I was the first woman to play Pi in the stage version of Life of Pi on Broadway. I have been a contributing teaching artist at the Atlantic Acting School for almost a decade. I crochet, run, craft, write (@umatypes on Instagram), and when I have time, I try to find a practice room with a drum kit.

Reach out if you'd like to know any more, I love to collaborate!
